ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Indie rock band The Queens has just released their catchy new single “Rock Paper Scissors” which is now available on all major streaming platforms and Bandcamp. The release coincides with the beginning of Pride Month 2025.
The Queens’ songs, driven heavily by vocalist Lilith Brendan’s songwriting, touch heavily on “existential, societal, and unapologetically queer themes”, and the latest release is no exception. “This is a song about knowing when to admit that you were wrong,” shares Brendan.

“Rock Paper Scissors” embodies a message that many members of the queer community seek and deserve to hear — an acceptance of past failures and a commitment to move forward after such encounters.
The Queens’ music is impossible to label as the band draws influences from a wide variety of music from indie rock to alternative to pop punk and emo. In “Rock Paper Scissors”, they continue to experiment with new approaches to their musical arrangements, pairing catchy chord progressions with esoteric song structures and instrumentation to come up with something uniquely their own.
Having recently undergone a lineup expansion with the addition of Amiel Jamindang as a third guitarist has had a particularly significant influence on how the final track turned out. “This is the first song written specifically with our three-guitar lineup in mind,” says Brendan. “We also attempted to make breakdowns with bass solos a thing.”
“Rock Paper Scissors” was written as a standalone single with no immediate plans for inclusion in larger musical projects. However, fans of The Queens can expect to hear more new music from the band not too long from now as they are consistently discovering new directions to take their sound.
They are set to make another appearance in nearby Cebu City at the Tunecore Indie Stage of this year’s Fete De La Musique celebration.
The Queen’s exploration of LGBTQ+ themes as a driving force for their music makes “Rock Paper Scissors” a perfect song to celebrate Pride Month with and the band hopes it resonates with anyone who might need to hear it.
